Background
Dr. Mootha grew up in the Houston area. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked at Texas Instruments as a design engineer before pursuing a career in medicine. He attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston's Texas Medical Center. He remained at Baylor College of Medicine for medical school, urological residency, and fellowship training. He has done extensive basic science research in urology, and is published in several urological journals.
He is passionate about urology and enjoys practicing a full range of treatments. He has fellowship training in female urology and voiding dysfunction, allowing him to treat incontinence and pelvic floor disorders with a high level of expertise. His background in engineering also allows him to merge the latest in technology with urological treatments. Another area of expertise is in laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He is one of the first surgeons in North Texas to be certified by Intuitive Surgical for the DaVinci surgical system. He is among a small group of surgeons using the DaVinci robot for prostate and kidney surgery.
Dr. Mootha is also known for his pleasant bedside manner. He takes time to educate and counsel patients regarding their condition and review their treatment options. For patients electing surgery, Dr. Mootha is a "perfectionist" in the operating room, and and follows through with attentive postoperative care. His staff share a similar philosophy to provide the best possible care in a pleasant environment.
Dr. Mootha comes from a medical family. His father is a retired general surgeon and his three siblings are physicians. He lives in North Dallas with his wife. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, automobile mechanics, and spending time with his wife.
